The purpose of the Estonian Maritime Academy is to offer a high quality maritime education, accredited both domestically as well as internationally, to perform and coordinate the activities of maritime teaching and development as well as to organise applied and scientific maritime research.

The fields of activities of the Maritime Academy comprise:

1. offering the opportunity of acquiring a degree in tertiary education (university degree) based on a higher vocational training and entering the M.A. teaching programs given by the state government; 
2.  offering the opportunity of acquiring a vocational training based on a secondary school degree I or II and performed on the basis of the teaching programs for a vocational secondary education at the Maritime School which forms a part of the Estonian Maritime Academy;
3. performance of maritime-related applied research and development activities;
4. organisation of further education.
